2020 Ram 1500 Redesign: Next Generation

2020 Ram 1500 Redesign

The 2020 Ram 1500 is going to be a redesigned model of the famous pickup truck. Although the 2018 Ram 1500 is going to be improved with a number of substantial changes that might be considered rather elaborate, the true redesign will wait until 2019 calendar year.

Since this we’re looking far into the future, we can only speculate about the truck’s features. The 2018 model year is closer, but we still don’t know for sure all the changes they’re going to make. The 2020 Ram 1500 is a mystery at the moment.

Some Elementary Remarks

However, we can say a couple of things about the next-gen Ram 1500. Although the truck’s exterior is going to be altered as a part of the major update for 2018 model year, radical changes are expected to be introduced with the redesigned 2020 Ram 1500. The fact that there’s going to be a completely new appearance could mean that the automaker is going to use it in more than one way.

There were some hints about possible expansion of the Ram brand into the other market segments. In other words, we could see a Ram SUV soon enough and it could share the design language with the 2020 Ram 1500 truck.

2020 Ram 1500 Engines

As for the powertrain, the 2020 Ram 1500 will certainly come with a hybrid powertrain as a regular option. The 2018 Ram 1500 will introduce the hybrid setup, so the next generation can use an improved version in order to compete against the Ford F-150 whose hybrid powertrain is currently under development and it’s expected to be installed by the 2020 model year.

There were certain rumors that speculated about a divorce between FCA and Cummins, but none of the official statements indicate that something like has been even considered. The 2018 Ram 1500 will get a lineup of significantly improved engines, so the 2020 Ram 1500 will rely on those mills, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they introduce one or two brand new engines, capable of providing great specs and meeting high EPA fuel economy requirements at the same time.

Technology Improvements

Since FCA is tirelessly working on developing state-of-the-art technology, the next-gen Ram 1500 will certainly be equipped more than the 2018 Ram 1500. Although this is good news in general sense, having a truck with all those screens and lights might miss the entire point of this type of vehicle. However, we know for sure that the automaker is aware of this fact and they’re not going to force new gadgets at all cost. They’re going to cleverly use the latest technology in order to improve the truck’s safety, comfort and convenience, but they won’t clutter the dashboard with unnecessary toys.

When to Expect 2020 Ram 1500 Release?

As far as we know, the 2018 Ram 1500 is going to be great. After the major update scheduled for 2017, the 2020 Ram 1500, that should be released two years later, must be an incredible piece of art in order to top the predecessor.

I like what they’re doing with the Ram trucks but the one one thing that they need to bring back is the console shift and get away from a dial shift. I own a 2012 Ram sport and have driven a 2016 and cannot see the benefit in a dial shift. Personally it takes away from the driving experience for me. Whatever the reason for this design I feel it’s misguided.
